THE SONGS

URGE

URGE was the name that Ex-Persuaders John Jenkins and John Gillin used for their expensive hobby of recording songs without the pressures of having a band or playing live - Songs were recorded in a couple of studios in Liverpool over many years with musician friends to help out - Songs featured here are:

Haunted (John Jenkins)

A song about refection and looking back on your memories - This song - dare i say - is the one song that everyone comes back to John and says is the best thing i have written.

Fear of Falling (John Gillin)

That Girl is Going to Make you Cry (John Jenkins)

This was a tongue in cheek song and John asked Chris Curtis (The Searchers) to sing this for him but he said he wasnt keen on it - John got a local singer Alan to do the vocal and Marc Vormawah to do the Beach Boy Harmonies. A few years later John bumped into Chris Curtis again and he said "John i was playing an old cassette of a song of yours called "That Girl is going to make you cry" and i love it" - John told him it was the same song he had wanted Chris to sing a few years previously but had turned John down.  "No - Not Me" he replied "i would have loved to sing this". Shame really - Chris did sing two songs on 4 track "Heart and Soul" and "So Far Away" (co-written with John G) on John's 4 track - These  John wishes he could put my hands on  - Chris passed away in 2005. He was a big inspiration to John when he started writing songs and very encouraging.

Never Say always (John Gillin)

I Would only lose myself (without your Love) (John Jenkins and John Gillin)

John wrote this and wasn't too happy with the middle 8 he had and asked John Gillin to work something in and he delivered  - This was quite a departure from the other recordings which featured a band and were more rocky(ish) - This one was aimed for a Burt Bacharach feel - especially on the outro - Great singing from Rachel Gore who was about 16 when she sang this.

Bitter Harvest (John Jenkins)

This was John's Bruce Springsteen Gospel song - Sung by Steve Roberts (Wonderful singer by the way) - John had really wanted a big Gospel choir on this but had to make do with Marc Vormawah and Ann Murphy (they done great though)
